Justin And Jessica Are Not 'N Sync Anymore

Stop the presses and pass the tissues -- Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have split up. Actually it happened last month and reports are saying that Justin was the one that broke up with her over the phone. Anonymous reports are indicating one of the main problems was that Jessica kept checking up on Justin wondering when the singer was going to bTimberlake_Biele bring "SexyBack". Oh yeah, we said it. Any reference we can make to one of JT's songs makes the day even greater. It make the bad times go "Dead And Gone" and if you don't believe that, "Cry Me A River". Want some more references? E-mail us here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and see if you can name more JT songs than we can. And if we don't answer it's probably because we're out trying to find the now-single and dangerous-to-download Jessica Biel. But don't worry abotu Justin -- the latest rumors have him dating Rihanna. But if we do answer, go ahead and ask us about saving some money on your next move with Starving Students. Play your cards right and you'll be eligible for our Cram Session discount and if you're really lucky, we'll try and play some Justin Timberlake songs in our trucks while we're moving you. Cause our movers are always 'N Sync.

DeShawn's Tattoos Praise Lincoln

Washington Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson's name probably won't appear often in this space except when he has tattoos that are newsworthy all over his face and neck, which he did. A rumor floating around the office is claiming that he did it juDeShawn_Stevensonst to get on to the Starving Students blog, but that might be a stretch. But he did get some serious tattoos around his neck and some on his face, too, which seems really painful. Almost as painful as getting destroyed by Lebron James each year, but that doesn't stop the shooting guard from talking trash to King James each time they play. And for some reason the tattoo around DeShawn's neck resembles a five-dollar bill. Why a five dollar bill and not a ten or twenty or hundred? We have no idea. But the $20 bill might be a better idea so DeShawn could look in the mirror and recall how much money he could save on his next move with Starving Students. If he were to take advantage of our Cram Session, he or you could save some money with Starving Students. Simply send us an e-mail here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to see how we can save you some money on your move. Whether or not you go out and get some tattoos like DeShawn is completely up to you.

Toyota Issues The Biggest Safety Recall In History

Toyota will be recalling at least 3.8 million Lexuses (Lexi?) and Toyotas due to the floor mat potentially causing the accelerator to get jammed, which could lead to a nasty accident that no one would believe. Can you imagine having to tell someone that you got into an accident because the floor mat causing the gas pedal to get stuck which caused you to rear-end that Starving Students truck in front of you. The National Highway Traffic Safety AdministratiToyota_Logoon is uring people to immediately turn their cars over to their local dealership or take the more drastic measure of removing their floor mats to save themselves from getting into a potential accident. The affected vehicles include 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES 350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS 250 and IS350. My advice? Take the floor mat out of the car immediately and then drive it over to Toyota, park the car and then put the floor mat back in after you put the car in park. Want some more advice? Take advantage of some of our offers to save some money on your next move with Starving Students. Send us an e-mail here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Kate Plus Eight Equals No Jon

For all of you fans who closely followed the show, you can forget about Jon as now TLC has revealed that the formerly-known "Jon and Kate Plus 8" will now become "Kate Plus 8" since Jon is now dating tabloid reporters and is soKate_Gosselinrt of out of the picture though he will appear every once in a while on the show. Instead of focusing on the family life of the Gosselin clan, the show's conquest will instead follow the journeys of the semi-single mom as she raises her brood. From what I hear though, part of the fun of the original incarnation of the show was watching the couple bicker amongst each other. Now onlookers will have to find a new way to find entertainment as Kate and her eight children tackle life with a little less Jon in their lives. And if the clan decides to move, we can certainly work with them to save them some money on their move, which could go a long way in putting all eight kids through college one day. Justin Guarini Doesn't Marry Kelly Clarkson

Because apparently celebrity marriages informing reality stars was the thing to do this weekend, it's being reported that Justin Guarini married his longtime girlfriend Reina Capodici on Saturday in Dolestown, PA. The American Idol season one runner-up married Reina Capodici pretty much after anyone remembers who he is -- except me. I happen to stumble across that movie he made with Kelly Clarkson the other other day and boy was it terrible. Almost as terrible as not having a chance to save money on your move. Find out how Starving Students can help you save some money on your move by e-mailing us here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Lamar Keeps Up With The Kardashian

Basketball and reality television fans everywhere can rejoice in the fact that Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom married Khloe Kardashian this past weekend, bringing together two powerhouses from the entertainment industry and possibly evLamar_Khloeen creating a new reality star if Lamar moves in with the Kardashian clan. And just think -- you can buy exclusive photos of the new married couple's wedding for a mere $300,000. And why wouldn't you want to celebrate reality telvision's hottest new couple? Reality television, after all, has brought us such great television stars such as Brody Jenner, Heidi and Spencer Pratt and Screech, who reinvented himself on Celebrity Fit Club. As you can tell, I watch way too much reality television. But that's how you keep up with society nowadays. After all, how else would you keep up with how much weight Marcia Brady has gained or how much Simon Cowell likes someone's singing? And where else would you find out how much money you can save on your next move? Starving Students can help you with that question. Simply shoot us an e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Roxy Olin Moves In To The City

Proving that everything must be going OK in the world because a former member of The Hills is happy, Whitney Port will soon have a new roommate when Roxy Olin joins The Hills alum in her New York apartment. It appears as though the duo met in high school and will be living together as Whitney attempts to tackle the Big Apple and try to make it as a member of the New York Knicks. Wait, that might be someone else, but that'd be a fun storyline, too. And with that lineup, she just might be ableWhitney_Port to make the team. If they add that twist, can someone let me know? Because that'd probably get me to watch The City -- the name of the MTV show that'll follow Whitney and Roxy as they do whatever it is that they do. And if Roxy could use some movers to help get her stuff into Whitney's pad, she can surely use Starving Students. We can even try and save her some money on her next move if she decided to go with us by e-mailing us here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Various Types of Tylenol Recalled

A voluntary recall of certain types of Tylenol has been issued by McNeil Consumer Healthcare because one of the inactive ingredients didn't meet up to their standards and thus the voluntary recall. And to be fair, there are quite a few products on Tylenolthis recall so this is probably going to cost Tylenol a pretty penny to recall these products because of an inactive ingredient. That'd be like my wife divorcing me because I had a hair out of place, or something like that. OK, maybe not exactly like that, but whatever. The one thing you won't to have recalled is your move with Starving Students. Leighton, Blake and the Cowboys

Approximately 2% of the fun of watching the Emmy's last night came from watching Neil Patrick Harris. The other 98% came from checking out everyone's outfits and figuring out who would get the most buzz from wearing what and who would geBlake_Leightont slammed for dressing inappropriately at television's annual awards show. And from what I'm hearing, Blake Lively got the most buzz for her red dress she wore to the event while Leighton Meester also got some notice for her white outfit that had people talking, too. What had me buzzing was watching the New York Giants take on the Dallas Cowboys in the Cowboys' new stadium. That sucker looks nice. It's got windows and seats and everything. I have a friend who I talk to every once in a while that takes a flight from Los Angeles to Dallas at least eight times a year because he has season tickets. That's a pretty dedicated fan. And if he ever wants to take the logical step of actually moving down there, he can go ahead and send us an e-mail here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Jessica Simpson Probably Hates Coyotes

In a story that's sad but shows how terribly obsessed we are with celebrities, Jessica Simpson's dog was snatched by a coyote right in front of the singer's eyes. Followers of the former Newlyweds star knew about the experience thanks to her TwitSimpson_Shavingter page, which told her fans that her caramel-colored puppy was taken away in front of her. Jessica is also offering a reward for the return of her dog "Daisy", though we think that may be unlikely unless the Coyote is signed in to Twitter and sees the message. Seriously though, that's sad. Losing an animal is tough and is like losing a family member. What's also tough is wasting your hard-earned money when you don't have to. Bryon Russell Challenges Michael Jordan

A lot of people that I knew were fans of Michael Jordan growing up. It almost got to the point that you couldn't walk more than a block or so without seeing the familiar red #23 jersey with the word "Jordan" on the back of it. And don't get me wrong -- I eJordan_Russellnjoyed watching His Airness play, too. He transcended the game in so many ways, creating shots out of nowhere, dunking with a combination of elegance and power that no one had exhibited before and his game influenced millions of youngsters around the world who practiced his moves on the playground day after day. However one person who is no longer a fan is Bryon Russell. You might remember Russell as the man tasked with guarding Jordan during the battles between Utah and Chicago in the Finals -- particularly the play where Jordan (conveniently moving him out of the way with his off-hand) hit a jumper over Russell to give them the championship in what should have been Jordan's last game, But now, offended by Jordan's Hall of Fame speech, Russell is challenging Jordan to a game of one-on-one to help settle the score. Apparently the Cal State Long Beach alum was offended by Jordan's speech in which Jordan mentioned where his motivation came to dominate opponents and Russell is challenging Jordan to come out to California to play a game of one-on-one, which Russell obviously feels as though he'll win. Here at Starving Students, we'd like to offer the winner of the potential one-on-one matchup the opportunity to use our Cram Session This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Kanye West Interrupts Taylor Swift's Speech

What was the most memorable moment at last night's MTV Video Music Awards show? Was it Janet Jackson's tribute to her late brother that you'll remember most? Or will it be Lady Gaga's outfits that you'll remember most from the production? Chances are a lot of us will remember and be talking about Kanye West for quite a while. You see, it wasn't just that Kanye Kanye_Westinterrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for winning the Best Female Music Video, it was the way he did it. Grabbing the microphone from Taylor Swift and announcing that Beyonce should have won the award while Taylor was in the middle of thanking all of those that helped her win her award was what was so surprising -- even for Kanye. It also didn't help that Taylor stood there motionless like a deer in the headlights, not knowing what to do. What won't make you or Taylor blush is our Back To School discount, which can save you $20 on your next move. Brian Urlacher Out For The Season

The NFL season got underway this past weekend and while there were many stories that came out of the exciting season openers, perhaps the biggest news was that Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher is out for the season due to a Urlacherdislocated right wrist, an injury that he suffered in their opening season loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday night. The Pro Bowl linebacker's injury is a striking blow to a Bears team that had high expectations following the acquisition of quarterback Jay Cutler this past offseason. Urlacher had started 49 consecutive games in his 10-year career and has missed only seven games -- all of those in the 2004 season when he injured his hamstring. The news that Urlacher will miss the team's remaining regular season games ensures that he will more than double his previous missed games total. If you're feeling down about the news about Brian Urlacher missing the rest of this season, go ahead and cheer up with our Back To School discount and see if you can save $20 on your move. MJ Flies Into The Hall Of Fame

Anyone that's ever watched Michael Jordan play knows that there will never be another like him. The man could pretty much do whatever he wanted to do on the court. Whether it be his gravity-defying moves that earned him the nickname "Air" or being able to dominate defensively, the basketball legend has earned his place in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, which he will be inducted into tonight. In fact, many would argue that Jordan was not only the greatest basketball player to ever live, but maybe even the greatest professional athlete that has ever lived. And some would argue that Starving Students is one of the greatest moving companies of all-time, too. And to top it off, we're even offering a $20 discount to people that qualify for our Cram Session offer. Go ahead and send us an e-mail here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Hoki Fish Would Go Great With Fries

What'd you think about the Hoki fish you ate the other day? Sure you had some. You just probably didn't realize that that was what you're eating because it's been revealed that the Hoki fish is the star (so to speak) of the filet-o-fish you had at Filet-O-FishMcDonald's the other day. In fact, McDonald's used an estimated 15 million pounds of the deep-water fish each year -- so many that New Zealand had to limit the poundage that could be fished since Ronald McDonald's company is using so much of the little fish. And while the numbers appear to be stable now, New Zealand is closely monitoring the consumption to make sure the little Hoki fish is exploited for their ability to taste good between a bun along with some tasty french fries and a soft drink. And what better way to top off a move than by eating some Hoki. Save some money on your move so you can make the trip to your local McDonald's to eat some Hoki by taking advantage of our Cram Session. Hef Set To Divorce After 20 Years

I'Hugh_Hefnerm sure I've read this somewhere before, but Hugh Hefner is married. And not to any of The Girls Next Door. Nope, it's too another woman to whom he's been married for more than 20 years, 11 of which have been estranged or separated. His wife, Kimberley Conrad, a former Playboy model has been living in a house next door to the Playboy Mansion since the pair split amicably 11 years ago. But the real news here isn't that, whoa, Hef is married, but that they've finally made the decision to divorce. So after 11 years of separation, Hef woke up and decided it was finally time to get to them divorce papers. Partly because he's probably got another relationship going on, but also partly because he fell on hard times and sold Conrad's house. Now she's saying that Hef owes her $5 million for selling that house and Hef's getting back at her by divorcing her. Now nothing here at Starving Students bothers us more than hearing about a couple that's dealing with moving a house while also falling on hard times. That's why we're happy to propose Hef and Conrad utilize our Back To School special to see if they can save $20 on their move. All they have to do is follow the guidelines to qualify for the discount and book their move by sending us an e-mail here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 2009 CMA Nominations Announced

I've never been a huge fan of country music. In fact, there was even a time that I hated it. That changed when I actually decided to try listening to it and found out there were some good songs out there. Of course that was a while ago and the same artists that I found intriguing aren't dropping many albums nowadays. My favorite was Shania Twain and her mega album, Come On Over. Of course that was 12 years ago and now there are several other country singers and albums that make people get up and two-step. I think that's a country dance. And for all of you country fans, the CMA has announced the nominees for their 2009 awards: 2009 CMA Nominations Entertainer of the YearCMA_Awards Kenny Chesney Brad Paisley George Strait Taylor Swift Keith Urban New Artist Of The Year Randy Houser Jamey Johnson Jake Owen Darius Rucker Zac Brown Band Female Vocalist of the Year Miranda Lambert Martina McBride Reba McEntire Taylor Swift Carrie Underwood Male Vocalist of the Year Kenny Chesney Brad Paisley Darius Rucker George Strait Keith Urban Vocal Group of the Year Eagles Lady Antebellum Little Big Town Rascal Flatts Zac Brown Band Vocal Duo of the Year Big & Rich Brooks & Dunn Joey + Rory Montgomery Gentry Sugarland Album of the Year (Award goes to artist and producer) 'American Saturday Night' - Brad Paisley 'Defying Gravity' - Keith Urban 'Fearless' - Taylor Swift 'Love on the Inside' - Sugarland 'That Lonesome Song' - Jamey Johnson Single of the Year (Award goes to artist and producer) 'Chicken Fried' - Zac Brown Band 'I Run to You' - Lady Antebellum 'In Color' - Jamey Johnson 'People Are Crazy' - Billy Currington 'Then' - Brad Paisley Song of the Year (Award goes to songwriters) 'Chicken Fried' - Zac Brown, Wyatt Durette 'I Told You So' - Randy Travis 'In Color' - Jamey Johnson, Lee Thomas Miller, James Otto 'People Are Crazy' - Bobby Braddock, Troy Jones 'Then' - Brad Paisley, Chris DuBois, Ashley Gorley Musical Event of the Year 'Cowgirl's Don't Cry' - Brooks & Dunn with Reba McEntire 'Down The Road' - Kenny Chesney with Mac McAnally 'Everything But Quits' - Lee Ann Womack with George Strait 'I Told You So' - Carrie Underwood with Randy Travis 'Old Enough' - The Raconteurs with Ricky Skaggs & Ashley Monroe Music Video of the Year (Award goes to artist and director) 'Boots On' - Randy Houser 'Love Story' - Taylor Swift 'People Are Crazy' - Billy Currington 'Start a Band' - Brad Paisley and Keith Urban 'Troubadour' - George Strait Musician of the Year Eddie Bayers Paul Franklin Dann Huff Brent Mason Mac McAnally Celebrate the 2009 CMA nominations by taking advantage of our Back To School discount. September 9, 2009 -- Good For Cats?

Each day is special, but today happens to be unique for the fact that's it's September 9, 2009 or 9/9/09 ... however you want to write it. It's a date that could be significant for a number of reasons or it could just be like any other day, which it is Cataround here. But one Web site is saying that we should celebrate the day by making this a "cat-free" day on the Internet. Urlesque.com is trying to convince people to give cats a rest for one day from all the online madness that usually surrounds them online for this one special day. They even have a petition going out to make this a cat-free day with 38 responses thus far. I'm not sure if that qualifies to make this an official holiday, but it's a start. And $20 off of your move is a nice start, too. It's a nice discount to get off of your move and because we're Starving Students, we're happy to give you this discount as part of our Back To School discount. Go ahead and shoot us an e-mail here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Helpful Hints For Your First Day of School

The first day of school was always very intimidating to me. I was always afraid of what the kids were going to say to me or who would be in my class or how much everyone had changed over the long, but way too quick, summer break. Because as a child, my summer days were spent relaxing, watching television, playing video games or sleeping. I didn't really get outside much and enjoyed watching The Price is Right or whatever talk show was on at the time. I think Sally Jessie Raphael was big back then, but honestly it's been so long I don't remember. But once time arose to head back to school, the nerves would start up for me. But the American Academy of Pediatrics has some helpful tips for kids heading back to school: MAKING THE FIRST DAY EASIER
  • Remind your child that she is not the only student who is a bit uneasy about the first day of school. Teachers know that students are anxious and will make an extra effort to make sure everyone feels as comfortable as possible.
  • Point out the positive aspects of starting school: It will be fun. She'll see old friends and meet new ones. Refresh her positive memories about previous years, when she may have returned home after the first day with high spirits because she had a good time.
  • Find another child in the neighborhood with whom your youngster can walk to school or ride with on the bus.
  • If you feel it is appropriate, drive your child (or walk with her) to school and pick her up on the first day.
BACKPACK SAFETY
  • Choose a backpack with wide, padded shoulder straps and a padded back.
  • Pack light. Organize the backpack to use all of its compartments. Pack heavier items closest to the center of the back. The backpack should never weigh more than 10 to 20 percent of the your child’s body weight.
  • Always use both shoulder straps. Slinging a backpack over one shoulder can strain muscles.
  • Consider a rolling backpack. This type of backpack may be a good choice for students who must tote a heavy load. Remember that rolling backpacks still must be carried up stairs, and they may be difficult to roll in snow.
TRAVELING TO AND FROM SCHOOL Review the basic rules with your youngster: School Bus
  • If your child’s school bus has lap/shoulder seat belts, make sure your child uses one at all times when in the bus. If your child’s school bus does not have lap/shoulder belts, encourage the school to buy or lease buses with lap/shoulder belts.
  • Wait for the bus to stop before approaching it from the curb.
  • Do not move around on the bus.
  • Check to see that no other traffic is coming before crossing.
  • Make sure to always remain in clear view of the bus driver.
  • Children should always board and exit the bus at locations that provide safe access to the bus or to the school building.
Car
  • All passengers should wear a seat belt and/or an age- and size-appropriate car safety seat or booster seat.
  • Your child should ride in a car safety seat with a harness as long as possible and then ride in a belt-positioning booster seat. Your child is ready for a booster seat when she has reached the top weight or height allowed for her seat, her shoulders are above the top harness slots, or her ears have reached the top of the seat.
  • Your child should ride in a belt-positioning booster seat until the vehicle's seat belt fits properly (usually when the child reaches about 4' 9" in height and is between 8 to 12 years of age). This means that the child is tall enough to sit against the vehicle seat back with her legs bent at the knees and feet hanging down and the shoulder belt lies across the middle of the chest and shoulder, not the neck or throat; the lap belt is low and snug across the thighs, and not the stomach.
  • All children under 13 years of age should ride in the rear seat of vehicles. If you must drive more children than can fit in the rear seat (when carpooling, for example), move the front-seat passenger’s seat as far back as possible and have the child ride in a booster seat if the seat belts do not fit properly without it.
  • Remember that many crashes occur while novice teen drivers are going to and from school. You should require seat belt use, limit the number of teen passengers, do not allow eating, drinking, cell phone conversations or texting to prevent driver distraction; and limit nighttime driving and driving in inclement weather. Familiarize yourself with your state’s graduated driver license law and consider the use of a parent-teen driver agreement to facilitate the early driving learning process.
Bike
  • Always wear a bicycle helmet, no matter how short or long the ride.
  • Ride on the right, in the same direction as auto traffic.
  • Use appropriate hand signals.
  • Respect traffic lights and stop signs.
  • Wear bright color clothing to increase visibility.
  • Know the "rules of the road."
Walking to School
  • Make sure your child's walk to a school is a safe route with well-trained adult crossing guards at every intersection.
  • Be realistic about your child's pedestrian skills. Because small children are impulsive and less cautious around traffic, carefully consider whether or not your child is ready to walk to school without adult supervision.
  • If your child is young or is walking to new school, walk with them the first week to make sure they know the route and can do it safely.
  • Bright colored clothing will make your child more visible to drivers.
  • In neighborhoods with higher levels of traffic, consider starting a “walking school bus,” in which an adult accompanies a group of neighborhood children walking to school.
EATING DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
  • Most schools regularly send schedules of cafeteria menus home. With this advance information, you can plan on packing lunch on the days when the main course is one your child prefers not to eat.
  • Try to get your child's school to stock healthy choices such as fresh fruit, low-fat dairy products, water and 100 percent fruit juice in the vending machines.
  • Each 12-ounce soft drink contains approximately 10 teaspoons of sugar and 150 calories. Drinking just one can of soda a day increases a child's risk of obesity by 60%. Restrict your child's soft drink consumption.
BULLYING
  • Bullying is when one child picks on another child repeatedly. Bullying can be physical, verbal, or social. It can happen at school, on the playground, on the school bus, in the neighborhood, or over the Internet.
When Your Child Is Bullied
  • Help your child learn how to respond by teaching your child how to:
1. Look the bully in the eye. 2. Stand tall and stay calm in a difficult situation. 3. Walk away.
  • Teach your child how to say in a firm voice. "I don't like what you are doing."
  1. "Please do NOT talk to me like that."
  2. "Why would you say that?"
  • Teach your child when and how to ask for help.
  • Encourage your child to make friends with other children.
  • Support activities that interest your child.
  • Alert school officials to the problems and work with them on solutions.
  • Make sure an adult who knows about the bullying can watch out for your child's safety and well-being when you cannot be there.
When Your Child Is the Bully
  • Be sure your child knows that bullying is never OK.
  • Set firm and consistent limits on your child's aggressive behavior.
  • Be a positive role mode. Show children they can get what they want without teasing, threatening or hurting someone.
  • Use effective, non-physical discipline, such as loss of privileges.
  • Develop practical solutions with the school principal, teachers, counselors, and parents of the children your child has bullied.Back_To_School_Note
When Your Child Is a Bystander
  • Tell your child not to cheer on or even quietly watch bullying.
  • Encourage your child to tell a trusted adult about the bullying.
  • Help your child support other children who may be bullied. Encourage your child to include these children in activities.
  • Encourage your child to join with others in telling bullies to stop.
BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CHILD CARE
  • During middle childhood, youngsters need supervision. A responsible adult should be available to get them ready and off to school in the morning and watch over them after school until you return home from work.
  • Children approaching adolescence (11- and 12-year-olds) should not come home to an empty house in the afternoon unless they show unusual maturity for their age.
  • If alternate adult supervision is not available, parents should make special efforts to supervise their children from a distance. Children should have a set time when they are expected to arrive at home and should check in with a neighbor or with a parent by telephone.
  • If you choose a commercial after-school program, inquire about the training of the staff. There should be a high staff-to-child ratio, and the rooms and the playground should be safe.
DEVELOPING GOOD HOMEWORK AND STUDY HABITS
  • Create an environment that is conducive to doing homework. Youngsters need a permanent work space in their bedroom or another part of the home that offers privacy.
  • Set aside ample time for homework.
  • Establish a household rule that the TV set stays off during homework time.
  • Supervise computer and internet use.
  • Be available to answer questions and offer assistance, but never do a child's homework for her.
  • Take steps to help alleviate eye fatigue, neck fatigue and brain fatigue while studying. It may be helpful to close the books for a few minutes, stretch, and take a break periodically when it will not be too disruptive.
  • If your child is struggling with a particular subject, and you aren't able to help her yourself, a tutor can be a good solution. Talk it over with your child's teacher first.

USC Moves Up AP Rankings -- UCLA Should Be Higher

If you're a college football fan, chances are your Labor Day was that much more enjoyable because this past weekend was a great weekend to watch some good games. Around the Los Angeles area, the University of Southern California is one of the more popular teams. In fact, many would argue that they are Los Angeles' lone professional football team since our beloved Raiders left. And that still hurts. A friend of mine and I made the trip up to watch the Raiders play a home game in Oakland last year and had a lot of fun. Of course, it'd be a lot more fun if the United States' second-largest market actually had a professional football team. What's up with that? But back to college football ... USC is great according to my friends and wife who actually like that school. I'm a UCLA fan, so you can imagine the pain and frustration I've felt for the past couple of years while Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart and the others have been running all over my Bruins. And if you're interested, here are the new top ten in college football (UCLA got two votes): UCLA_Helmet
  1. Florida
  2. Texas
  3. USC
  4. Alabama
  5. Oklahoma State
  6. Mississippi
  7. Penn State
  8. Ohio State
  9. Brigham Young
  10. California

Obama To Kids -- Do Good

President Obama's speech encouraging children to succeed in school has drawn quite a bit of criticism from those who think thObamaat the president would be better off spending his time on other issues at this time than explaining to children the importance of taking care of business in the classroom. Not surprisingly, the president moved forward with the speech on Tuesday, encouraging children to take responsibility in themselves and he even included references to Xbox, because our president is cool. He even threw in references to his own childhood and showed empathy towards children that might have it a little bit tougher in these times as they head back to school. Check out the text of his historic speech here. Of course, we're all having it just a little tougher right now with the economy the way that it is and we at Starving Students realize this, too. Labor Day Makes People Happy

What's the best part about Labor Day? Is it the three day weekend that several of us are going to get to enjoy? Or is it the time a lot of us are going to spend with family over the weekend? Or is it the history of Labor Day and getting to celebrate the tradition of this greDollars_Coinsat holiday? For me, it's a little of each of the above -- though the extra day off is especially gratifying to be honest. But certainly the sales and discounts this coming weekend make shopping a lot easier on the ol' pocketbook. Save On Your Move This Labor Day

Money’s tight. I know I’ve made several cutbacks in my life to save money. I’ve taken to eating cans of tuna with some mayo to save some money on food bills and I know the wife and I drive far less than we used to because gas prices make a huge dent in our meager savings. That’s one of the main reasons that this Labor Day is finding more anCrowded_Beachd more people sticking around their house in order to save money in this latest holiday season. With many people celebrating a three-day weekend in honor of, um, labor, barbecues across the country will be lit as celebrations take place close to home. Traditionally known as the last big travel weekend of the Summer, the decline in travel is also due in part to the fact that it’s taking place a week later than it did last year and many children across the country are heading back to school. Compound that with an unemployment rate of nearly 10% and you can see why we’re all looking to save money. Another thing the wife and I do to save money is to look for discounted items when we shop for anything. That’s what makes the Starving Students discounts so convenient. We make it possible for you to save $20 off of your next move when you use our Cram Session discount when you book with us. Oakland Univeristy Strike Keeps Students From Going Back To School

Remember when you would head to school and hope the professor wouldn't show up so you could just relax around your college or university or even go home for the day or evening? We used to even have that 15 minute rule where if the teacher didn't show up within15 minutes of class starting, we could skip class. A lot of students think that's a rule and I've never been convinced that it is or isn't. All I know is that we would start checking our watches more frequently as that magical 15 minute mark approached. But what if they never showed up again and you wouldn't get credit for that class? Oakland_University Well that's the prospect that students at Oakland University are facing. Apparently a strike over pay (which seems to be the impetus behind most labor disputes) is the main culprit here, as well as the number of faculty members. And because this has become such an issue that it might cause classes for the whole semester to be cancelled unless the administration and faculty can decide on terms to get them back into the classrooms. Until then, school's out for Oakland University. But because the teachers are smart, a lot of them are sending assignments to their would-be students over e-mail in the hopes that this matter gets settled soon. Administration sent an e-mail to the students letting them know that they could show up for class but were free to leave if the teacher didn't show up by, yup, you guessed it, 15 minutes after the scheduled start!!! While most Oakland University students are waiting to see if they can head back to school, you don't have to wait.
